Privacy Policy

Breathlessness Support is provided by Andrew Pritchard. This policy explains how information is handled by the Breathlessness Support iOS app and, separately, by this website. The two are deliberately different: the app is designed to work without collecting anything about you.

The mobile app

The Breathlessness Support app does not require an account. You do not sign in, and you are not asked to provide your name, email address, date of birth or any other identifying detail.

The app does not collect or transmit personal information or health information. Nothing you do in the app — what you read, what you listen to, or how often you open it — is sent to us or to anyone else.

The app does not use analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking technologies, and it does not use cookies. It does not ask for access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, location or health data. This matches the App Store privacy declaration for the app, which states that no data is collected.

App preferences, including your text-size preference and your welcome-audio preference, are stored locally on your own device. They stay on the device, and they are removed if you delete the app.

The app contains external links to this Privacy Policy and to the Contact and Support page. Opening one of those links leaves the app and opens this website in your device's browser, where the website practices described below apply.

This website

You can read everything on this website without giving us any personal information. We only collect an email address when you voluntarily join the waiting list, or when you choose to email us.

Waiting-list sign-ups

If you join the waiting list, we store four things alongside your email address, and nothing else: the date and time of your sign-up (so we know when consent was given), the source of the sign-up (currently always this website), the consent wording shown to you at the time (so we have a record of what you agreed to), and your browser's user-agent string — the short technical description your browser sends, such as the browser and operating system version — which helps us identify obvious automated or duplicate submissions. Your email address is converted to lower case before it is stored. This information is held in a hosted database provided by Supabase on our behalf.

We use that email address solely to send you updates about Breathlessness Support, such as letting you know when the app is available. We do not sell, rent or share it for marketing purposes.

Contact messages

There is no contact form on this website. When you write to hello@breathlessnesssupport.com, your message arrives as an ordinary email and is read in that mailbox. We keep the message for as long as needed to answer you and to keep a record of the enquiry, and we use it only for that purpose.

Cookies and website analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used and which pages people find useful. These services run only on the website — never in the app — and they set cookies and process technical information such as your IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you view. We do not use them for advertising, and we do not combine this information with waiting-list email addresses.

Both services are optional and neither is loaded until you actively choose "Accept optional cookies" in the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you reject optional cookies, or make no choice at all, no analytics scripts are loaded and no analytics cookies are set. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage (under the key bs-cookie-consent) rather than in a cookie, and it is not sent to us.

You can change your decision at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer of every page. If you withdraw consent, analytics collection is stopped and we delete the Google Analytics and Clarity cookies that can be removed from this site. Any cookies set by those providers on their own domains can only be cleared through your browser settings. Rejecting or withdrawing consent does not affect any part of the website.

Essential storage — for example remembering your cookie choice and whether you have marked an article as helpful — is kept locally in your browser and is needed for the site to work as expected.

Technical logs

Like any website, this site relies on hosting, database and security services to operate. Those services may process routine technical information — for example IP addresses and request logs — as part of delivering pages and protecting the site against misuse. We do not use that information to identify individual visitors.

Keeping your information safe

Information is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and the waiting-list database uses row-level security rules that allow the public website to add a sign-up but never to read, change or delete stored entries, so email addresses cannot be retrieved from the website. Sign-ups are checked for a valid email format and sensible field lengths both in your browser and in the database. We do not currently use CAPTCHA or automated rate limiting on the sign-up form.

Your rights

Under UK data-protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to have it deleted, and to object to or restrict our use of it. Where we send you updates, we rely on your consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

To make any of these requests, email hello@breathlessnesssupport.com and say what you would like us to do. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
