About Breathlessness Support

Breathlessness Support is a calm, evidence-informed resource for people who experience breathlessness — and for the families, clinicians and researchers who support them.

About the project

Breathlessness Support was created by someone with experience in respiratory care and digital health education, working to make clinical evidence easier to understand and act upon.

It is an independent educational resource developed using current clinical evidence, published patient education resources and peer-reviewed research. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or formally connected to any NHS organisation.

Our mission

To help people understand breathlessness, reduce the fear it can cause, and build the confidence to live well with it. We do that through clear educational articles, infographics, expert discussions, and a companion app currently in development.

Who it's for

The educational library is written for anyone experiencing breathlessness — whether new to the symptom or living with it long term — and for family members supporting them. A separate section for healthcare professionals provides concise evidence briefs for clinicians, researchers and service leads.

Our approach to evidence

Every article is grounded in peer-reviewed research and clinical guidance, and written in plain language. Content is reviewed for scientific accuracy before publication. Nothing on this website replaces the advice of your healthcare professional.

Acknowledgements

The development of this website has been informed by published educational resources, clinical guidance and evidence from a number of organisations whose work has made a valuable contribution to the evidence base in this field.

This acknowledgement reflects the value of their published work in informing the content here. It does not imply endorsement, partnership or formal affiliation.

Looking ahead

The project continues to evolve. Future research will evaluate the role of digital education and self-management support for people living with breathlessness, and the findings will inform further refinement of the resources offered here.
